ROYAL WEDDING GUEST LOOKS – Which one would you wear?

The wait is O-V-E-R! After months of build up and excitement, this Saturday May 19, the most talked about couple of the year will tie the knot at St George’s Chapel in the grounds of Windsor Castle. As far as I’ve read, they’ve chosen a carriage – which is navy and demure just like Meghan’s style!, they’ve picked the horses and catering for 600 of their guests including Elton John and the Spice girls.

Meghan Markle will have no adult bridesmaids as she’s unable to choose between her friends and will instead be surrounded by children as  page boys, bridesmaids and flower girls.
However, for me and I’m guessing every single woman of any age across the globe – the most exciting thing about the wedding is the dress. All bets are off when it comes to the designer (though Ralph & Russo, Erdem are among the possible ones) but one thing is for sure – that designer will go down in history.

Have you ever thought what- given the chance- would you wear to the royal wedding? Or more poignantly what will you be wearing on that day sipping your wine, and watching one of the most storied romances in the history of the monarchy on TV?
I had a few ideas for a royal wedding outfit, I won’t tell which of the three I’ll be donning on Saturday!
A polka dot dress would definitely make the cut as it’s classic and elegant. Pair it with strappy heels and a clutch.
Kick back in a pair of trainers and a long-sleeve silk dress. Why stress about heels when you’re at home?
Finally go for a Victorian-inspired ruffled top and pair it with skinny pants and mules. Oh-so-chic and royal ready!

Smocking Hot – the mini detail that will sort out your summer wardrobe in an instant!

I’m always excited to discover those tiny details that differentiate this summer to the previous and the one to come. This season the Insta fashion pack has agreed in absentia on a mini detail that I find incredibly alluring and perfect for the carefree spirit of summer.

Smocking is dominating our feeds at the moments and if you haven’t already starrted shopping for summer essentials you’ ll definitely discover it on tops, dresses or bikinis. This stretchy detail is what makes an outfit 2018 apparently and oh-so-summery at the same time.
If  you don’t believe me check the queen of summer dressing herself Lucy Williams in an array of styles and patterns. I absolutely fell in love with the Ganni selection for printed pieces or Donni if you’re looking for a bandeau top over those oversized cut-offs. As for swimwear you can’t go wrong with Tory Burch and  her selection of bikinis that will make you swoon.
So which smocking item will you be donning this summer?

Brows, they have transformed from the least important facial feature to the main focus in the last few years. Brows can frame your face, but be careful, depending on your face shape you may need to go for a different brow. When reshaping your brows, make sure not to over pluck.

Oval face shapes suit most looks, but a classic well balanced brow is best. Go for a soft angle, with a slight arch. Because an oval face is already well balanced, you don’t need a strong brow to frame.

Sorry heart shaped ladies, but the bushy brow trend donned by the likes of Cara Delevingne and Emilia Calrke isn’t for you. Your small jaw means that you want to emphasise the upper half of your face, therefore a well groomed brow is a must for you. Thin brows are never cute, but overgrown ones aren’t for you either- you need to find the perfect balance.

Most brow experts will tell you that the brow should end parallel to the corner of your eye, which is true for every other face shape, but not for you long ladies. You want to extend your features horizontally because naturally they are vertically stretched. Therefore, extend the brow past the corner of your eye, and go for for a flatter eyebrow shape.

Your strong jawline should be matched by a strong brow. The stronger the jaw, the greater the angle. Angelina Jolie is a good woman to look to for inspiration, her brows make her features (even more) striking.

In order to counteract the roundness of your face, you want your brows to give your face more definition. Thus, an angled brow, with a higher arch is best suited to you!

You gals want to go for a soft, curved brow because your temple is the widest part of your face and you don’t want to accentuate that by having an angular shape! With all this brow knowledge, you can now go forth and conquer the eyebrow game.

Hence forth with the SLAYage…

Every year I wait impatiently for another instalment of Cannes Film Festival. If not for the couture then at least for the gorgeous make up looks I can’t wait to implement.
As you’ve guessed it Cannes Film Festival is all about unapologetic glam. From the designer gowns to the A-list guests, as well as the impressive array of expensive jewellery on the famous guests, Cannes is definitely the place to go for over the top Great Gatzby-inspired feels; And to watch eclectic movies, of course…
There were a few that took the demure route: Penelope Cruz wowed in a natural look with a nude lip and subtle smokey eyes with well defines eyebrows. While Julianne Moore kept things casual by pairing her flawless complexion and natural makeup with a twisted top knot. President  of  the Jury Kate Blanchett also kept things simple and effective with a shimmering lip lacquer, a hint of winged eyeliner and a dab of creamy pink blusher.
When it came to hairstyle, bombshell waves were the order of the day for jury member and French actress Lea Seydoux at the  screening of “Todos los Saben”, that she emphasized with a hint of metallic eyeshadow. The Festival’s Feature Film Jury member Kristen Stewart made a memorable appearance with an elaborate updo that finished in a stylish quiff.
Which makeup looks will you be implementing this season? Let me know in the comments below. xx

Windbreakers Edit: Your Spring Staple

Ursina Gysi after the Chloe SS18 show

Dressing for Spring is always an adventure as you dabble between winter and lighter items to suit your mood and temperature degrees. Then, there are those that seems like they were created for transitional weather take the windbreaker for example. Although it had a bad rap it recently made a great comeback. Perhaps it’s due to our love for athleisure that has allowed designers to offer us a brand new range of elevated windbreakers and athletic accessories.

Take Alexander Wang’s super sporty version of eye-catching windbreakers both full-length and cropped styles. Sacai and Louis Vuitton also served us with an array of embellished styles including patterns and sequins. Last fall, innovative funky windbreakers made an appearance on the runways of designers like Isabel Marant and Valentino.
But, more recently Paris street style proved that these jackets were among the standout trends. The brightly coloured styles from the 80’s and 90’s are gaining massive popularity especially paired with other streetwear faves like vinyl pants and dad sneakers.
Celebs also gave their own styling tips. Take Kaia Gerber who was spotted in a windbreaker zipped over a turtleneck with jeans and her favourite white sneakers. Gigi Hadid appeared in NYC sporting a vintage windbreaker with plaid trousers and boots.
Pair your own windbreaker with a spring dress, dad shoes and a cross body round bag for the perfect daywear outfit that you can wear to your brunch or run errands. Opt for an old-school version and don it over a crop top leggings and sneakers for the ultimate athleisure version.

How will you be sporting your windbreaker this Spring?

FEATHER UP! A time to Celebrate

Screen Shot 2018-02-06 at 17.46.22

This season will be the year of celebration, sparkles, and feathers! Yes, that’s right, plush feathers are splashed over dresses, coats, and accessories. The memo was clear on the catwalks. Designers for autumn created plump amazing craftwork embellishments that added a glamour ingredient to the fabrics.

Screen Shot 2018-02-06 at 17.44.39
Uber-feminine was the theme at JW Anderson while an “overwhelming” sense of old Hollywood glitz was emphasized at Balenciaga. At Raf Simon’s Calvin Klein, the meaning was modernized as feathers were affixed on cocktail dresses or slipped under see-through plastic covers. Miu Miu and Prada also showed explosive feather decorated creations.

Screen Shot 2018-02-06 at 17.44.26
Feathers quickly flocked the red carpet too. Feather devotees include Julianne Moore in Calvin Klein and Uma Thurman sporting a seams extravaganza number. Feathers don’t have to be overwhelming, conversely, you can aim for subtlety.
Screen Shot 2018-02-06 at 17.44.16
Don’t go for a costume-like number unless that’s your thing, of course, opt for an item like a coat, skirt, or dress with just a few feather details. Or go all out! It’s about having fun at the end of the day.

This season the leopard print becomes more of a day-to-day piece of clothing than a statement piece necessarily. The days of wearing it with scepticism and frugality are almost long gone. This time it’s more about wearing it as a black shirt, goes with any pattern any colour or attitude your imagination can fathom.

Screen Shot 2018-02-08 at 17.02.18Although there was a misconception that a leopard overload can become tacky the truth is only the quality of the leopard print item in question can determine the elegance of the outfit. Because it had been associated with Christian Dior in the 50’s to true rockstar glam in the 60’s onwards with David Bowie and Debby Harry in the 80’s making it almost a piece of their trademark look. Courtney Love and Kurt Cobain gave it a much-needed grunge boost in the 90’s.

Screen Shot 2018-02-08 at 16.09.01

Nowadays, Leandra Medine from ManRepeller did an impressive double (but not identical) leopard print number, matching it with red strappy heels. Olivia Palermo clashes patterns of leopard print and checks while Alexa Chung goes for an animal print faux fur over short party dresses.

Screen Shot 2018-02-08 at 16.05.31

Street style during this fashion month has also been flocked with many variations of leopard print: from pochettes, to mules, jackets, shirts or leggings the animal print has proved itself as one of the most fun ways to be fashionable this season!

Ice cream chic is a now thing and well before gelato season. Fashion’s affinity for the pastel pile-up from the cones to the runway took the form of head-to-toe violet at Victoria Beckham, lemon sorbet at Hermés and pistachio hues at Sies Marjan.

Screen Shot 2018-02-08 at 12.20.11
At Helmut Lang, Shayne Oliver took blushing pink and morphed it into its adversary: fetishwear, while Raf Simons at Calvin Klein took baby blue babydolls and turned them into a Rosemary’s Baby sinister version. This playfulness aesthetic came about at a year that yearns for aggressive celebration. Winter’s metallics, feathers, glitter, rainbows and all round sparkle surrounding a Buz Luhrmann movie set, is the perfect testament to the celebratory moto.
Screen Shot 2018-02-08 at 12.20.44
Feel good fashion also was translated into pencil skirts and sheer layers that we can wiggle and shimmy in. Our staples like our trench coats, faux fur coats slip dresses and boots are receiving the joyful reincarnation of their own. Embellishments, diamonds, broaches, and lavish bandanas that would make any fashion girl sigh.
Screen Shot 2018-02-08 at 12.19.58
Stockholm Fashion Editor and street style extraordinaire Jeanette Madsen is an ice cream hue aficionado. She has the engaging ability to effortlessly combine pastel shades and evading the baby connotations at the same time.

Screen Shot 2018-02-07 at 16.30.01We are poignantly in a naughties resurgence that shows it’s low rise, logomania, embellished persona every once in a while. If you had the chance to experience the early ’00s even like a teenager (like moi) you may recall the dressed up jeans trend. Those party jeans are gaining back their reputation as enviable LBD alternatives. Emily Ratajkowski certainly thinks so. She sported a pair of straight legged denim jeans with ripped hems with an ethereal silky embroidered kimono by The Kooples to add a bit of glam to the outfit.

Screen Shot 2018-02-07 at 16.38.13

She wanted to add a bit more definition and sparkle to her evening look so she placed a pearl and crystal belt around her waist. She put her hair in a half – up Bardot-esque do for the ultimate effortless sexy result. She finished off the look with a pair of black heeled sandals and a leopard print bag.

Screen Shot 2018-02-07 at 16.03.58

For a more comprehensive evening look that is customised for the 2018 street style, go for a sequinned black rollneck, and pair it with a belt over the knee black boots and a bright coloured tote bag. This winter is all about celebrating and there’s nothing more celebratory than a top that sparkles!

Screen Shot 2018-02-07 at 16.04.09

If you’re not into glitter then opt for a statement top that does all the talking alternatively. For example, choose an off the shoulder ruffled top and pair it with mules and a cute leather clutch. It’s both gravitating yet unbearably chic.

Screen Shot 2018-02-07 at 16.03.34

For an authentic throwback channel your inner Victorian and go for the appropriate volume sleeved shirt, soft leather mules and an embroidered drawstring bag.

New York Fashion Week is running from tomorrow Thursday, February 8th until next Wednesday, February 14th following the Men’s collections February 5th- 8th. However, this New York Fashion Week is different than the rest. It’s following on a wave of changes that was initiated last season when Rodarte, Proenza Schouler, Altuzarra and Thom Browne moved their presentations to Paris. Tome’s Ramon Martin and Ryan Lobo also joined the pack of designers leaving New York for Paris. While the controversial collaboration of Rihanna’s Fenty x Puma received many accolades and the quintessential American spirit brand of Ralph Lauren hosted his show in his Bedford garage. This season more designers are striking on their own accord while two are coming out of town.
Screen Shot 2018-02-07 at 15.26.16
Tomas Maier is celebrating the opening of his Madison Avenue store and is visiting his Bottega Venetta show from Milan to New York for one season. Maier’s move makes sense since the fresh air being infused into the collection abides by the New York edgy and youthful sensibility. Esteban Cortazar – the boy wonder from Paris, formerly creative director of Emanuel Ungaro, is moving his show from Paris to New York.
Screen Shot 2018-02-07 at 15.26.56
Ever since Alexander Wang announced that he’s moving #WangFest to a June/December schedule there are more designers evading the conventional Fashion Calendar. Wand staged several street parties in September and will present his final show on the official schedule this Saturday before moving with his plans. Marchesa’s Georgina Chapman after filing for divorce from Harvey Weinstein and Keren Craig cancelled their runway show in favour of a more low-key event. Delpozo and Victoria Beckham are switching New York for London, Tome traded New York for Paris while there will be no Fenty x Puma show. Many others Public School and Baja East switched to straight-to-consumer, Burberry and Mansur Gavriel wanted to a see-now-buy-now model while Rebecca Minkoff and Lela Rose opted for Instagram shows instead of IRL ones.
Screen Shot 2018-02-07 at 15.26.32
But still, it’s New York fashion week Marc Jacobs whose latest collection was featured on the cover of American Vogue is closing the show. While Raf Simons is presenting both his third collection for Calvin Kein and also showcasing his own menswear brand. Tom Ford is showing two separate collections Women’s and Men’s. We’re anticipating Coach, Michael Kors, Oscar de la Renta and of course Jeremy Scott! We’re also expecting a breath of fresh air from newcomers (to the NYFW runway at least) Eckhaus Latta, the powerful subversive duo, and the American – Australian Matthew Adams Dolan, a denim aficionado and Rihanna favourite.
