Corset Envy

There’s definitely something about the Victorian allure of the corset. You may even associate it with the art of burlesque or those body-con slim waist garments that the Kardashian/ Jenner clan made popular on social media. Whatever the case, this tiny piece of fabric which is both vintage and modern and gives definition to the sloppiest outfits, is one of the strongest trends of the season.
Actually, many notable style setters were already in on the secret last season by cinching their jackets, dresses and shirts with corsets.
In SS17 designers took notice and emphasized the waist during the collections by placing impressive corsets over dresses and t-shirts. Take Isabel Marant for example, who took a relatively casual double denim look and elevated it by adding a white corset belt. In another look, the designer opted for a colourful corset belt to add a pop of colour to a monochrome look.

Over at Balenciaga Demna Gvasalia showed uber bold and over the top shoulders juxtaposed to cinched waists. You can easily incorporate this look by adding a corset belt to a blazer or suit. While Loewe showcased one of the best sellers adopted by many editors and influencers.

How can you style it yourself? Add definition and colour to a simple white tee by adding a cool corset over it. Try wearing a corset belt over a coat or trench to give it structure. Pair a monochrome corset over a dress for a casual day out or go for a corset sewn on a T-shirt and wear it over your jeans. Turn a blazer into a dress by adding a corset over it and you have the perfect going out look!
